Instructor Notes This WebQuest was created for our EDIT 2010 class at the University of Georgia. It was created for students in middle or high school Science or Social Studies. Here is some information on why we chose this activity and how we would use it in our class one day: -Research skills: Doing a WebQuest activity teaches students how to research on the internet. Also, they have had to learn to be able to discern "good" websites from those less useful sites, and they have learned to form their own opinions about information found on the internet. This is a crucial skill to have in the world we live in today. -Power Point skills: Prior to this assignment, students will have had background in Power Point use. This assignment is meant to further their knowledge of the program and make them more comfortable in using the program. This activity could be modified, however, and students could be assigned a paper instead of a Power Point presentation. -Group work: Students were asked to work in groups because it teaches them how to be a team player, how to divide up the work, and how to depend on other people. Students picked their own groups, but this had to be approved by the teacher. As a modification of this assignment, you could also ask students to do a group evaluation at the end of the project. -Historical research: Students are having to do outside work to learn about different historical landmarks. This assignment would also work if you wanted to research other places such as the Sphinx, the pyramids in Egypt, or the Grand Canyon. Also, you could have each team of students reserach a differnet landmark and give presentations to teach the class about what they learned. Good luck using this in your classroom! Feel free to modify this assignment however you feel is necessary, and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or problems you may have.
